First Youth Serial Soon in Belarus

The first serial about today’s Belarusian young people and today’s Minsk which will present the best Belarusian contemporary music will be soon produced in Belarus. The genre of the serial is dramedy, the format – 8 series, 44 minutes each. The premiere is scheduled for February 14, 2012.

The movie project is in the spirit of the uniform HIV/AIDS Information Strategy which has been developed in Belarus with the involvement of the governmental, international and non-governmental organizations and is intended to facilitate adoption of progressive social PR standards in the country.

The main hero of the serial is Nikita Mitskevich, a young Belarusian. He is about 20, he lives and studies in Minsk. He is a musician, composer and a member of the popular Minsk-based pop-group. He is brave, charismatic and cool. He is a real icon for girls and a model to imitate for boys. He follows his own principles and would not waive them for money. Nikita is enjoying life and he knows that the world is great.

Nikita is rivaling for leadership with Stasik, a top singer of their pop-group. Stasik is a handsome guy believing that he is a real star. Group members seem to support Nikita. But something happens that is going to reverse his life…

Will Nikita be able to overcome fears and stigma and to find real friends and genuine love? Will Nikita and his friends win top prize for which youth pop-groups are competing? Will Nikita find genuine freedom of spirit which is inseparable from responsibility for his own life and life of those who is so close to him?

All this is addressed in the Belarusian youth serial «BEYOND THE SKY».

The serial is the first movie project of this kind in Belarus and is produced by the UN Development Programme together with the Ministry of Health of Belarus and is funded by the grant of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

One of the grant objectives is to produce a serial that would help eliminate discrimination of people living with HIV and would contribute to HIV prevention in Belarus. The serial is intended to get young people involved in discussion of HIV/AIDS related concerns and to build up tolerant attitude to people living with HIV. The heroes of the serial are young people challenged by difficult life situations. The film is about eternal values such as love, friendship, faithfulness and ability to render a helping hand in a critical moment. Music is one of the important features of the serial, therefore groups popular among the young audience are expected to participate in the project.
