The Roundtable «Information and Communication Technologies and State Governance. E-Government»

On 3 March the roundtable «Information and Communication Technologies and State Governance. E-Government» was held in the House of Government in Minsk. The event brought together the Parliament members, government officials, representatives of business community and general public. International experts A. Danilin (Russia), A.Marusov (Ukraine) and A.Matulis (Lithuania) participated in the roundtable.

This is the second outreach event targeting the Belarusian Parliament which is organized within the framework of the joint project of the UNDP Office in the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian Government «Assistance in enhancing the use of the information and communication technologies in the Republic of Belarus». The roundtables are intended to encourage the dialogue between parliamentarians, government officials, business community and other stakeholders on the development of information and communication technologies (ICT) and to assist in formulation of the efficient informatization strategy (which are the key factors facilitating Belarus' integration into the global e-society). The first roundtable «Informatization and e-society in the Republic of Belarus» was held on 21 January 2004.

The participants of the roundtable were briefed about the key global trends in the implementation and introduction of the e-government projects, presented their vision of e-government promotion in various public sectors and discussed the national priorities in formulating the strategy for the establishment of the e-government. Foreign experts made presentations about the e-government establishment strategies which are being implemented in their countries and shared practical experience in introducing its elements. The discussion helped to formulate concrete recommendations on the mechanisms and approaches to the elaboration of the e-government establishment program.
