Three new sites Ц three wishes came true

The 7th of September was an important day for Gomel Oblast marked by a couple of memorable events. Three different but interesting and important for people project sites were officially opened under EU/UNDP action “Combat the Negative Effects of the Chernobyl Disaster in Belarus”.

The residents of the Vetka city, Gomel Oblast together with the guests celebrated a move to a renovated and newly equipped residential building. 40 residents moved in to their “new” home. The whole event was accompanied by a live music played by the local orchestra.  The residential building was fully renovated – starting from new windows and doors and ending up by plumbing. The total EU/UNDP funding was over 20,000 USD.

– Our objective is to solve global problems at the local level. I am happy that thanks to the joint efforts of local authorities and local communities, Ministry of Emergencies, financial resources provided by the European Union and United Nations Development Programme, we managed to achieve such results visible to everyone, – said Alexander Shamko, Deputy Minister of Emergencies.

Following a Belarusian tradition, Praskovia Markelovna’s cat called Vasiliok was the first one to step into their new house.

In parallel, another project initiative was officially opened: 93 children, parents and teachers of the secondary school/kindergarten in Vialikije Nemki, Vetka district, Gomel Oblast, were proud and happy to participate in implementation of the initiative – installation of new windows and doors in the school. The funding provided by the EU/UNDP constituted 28,000 USD.
The smallest pupils of the school have prepared drawings showing the success story of renovation of their school/kindergarten titled “Together we are power”. A lovely excursion around the school convinced their guests that good results and high performance of their pupils will follow shortly. “I wish you, kids, to get all knowledge possible in this beautiful, warm and modern school that will make you good people in your life”, – wished Elinor Bajraktari, UNDP Assistant Resident Representative.

The agro city Krivsk, Buda-Kosheliovo District, Gomel Oblast, was the next one to welcome guests during the opening ceremony of the branch of the musical school. In the framework of this mini-project, new musical instruments and equipment to organize have been procured for the amount of 5,000 USD.

The kids prepared a musical show thus proving the importance of the project initiative. 17 former pupils of the musical school prepared and read poems for all the participants of the event.
