Over 200 social protection specialists will receive training on rendering assistance to victims of human trafficking

A training program for social protection specialists on rendering social and psychological assistance to victims of human trafficking has started in the framework of the joint EU-UNDP-UNICEF project “Preventing, Fighting and Addressing the Social Consequences of Trafficking in Human Beings in the Republic of Belarus”.

The training sessions will be conducted at the International Training Centre on Migration and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Academy of the Ministry of Interior of Belarus. The duration of the training course is three months, and it will cover topics such as prevention of trafficking in human beings among the general population, rendering social and psychological assistance to women and children-victims of human trafficking and sexual abuse, ethical aspects of working with victims of human trafficking, etc.

The trainings will be conducted by instructors of the Academy of the Ministry of Interior, specialists of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Minsk City Centre for Social Services for Family and Children, the NGO “Belarusian Young Women Christian Association”, and international experts from Lithuania, Moldova, and Ukraine.

A total of over 200 specialists of the territorial centres for public social services from all regions of Belarus will receive the training.

– Improvement of the knowledge and competences of the specialists of the territorial public social services centres in the area of combating trafficking in human beings is the main prerequisite for high quality of the social services, considers Pyotr Grushnik, First Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection. – The national and international experience that has been accumulated in this sphere should be available for practical implementation and development, first of all on the regional level where highly-qualified and effective social services are most needed. This is the main task which we are trying to accomplish within this project.

For reference: The project “Preventing, Fighting and Addressing the Social Consequences of Trafficking in Human Beings in the Republic of Belarus” aims to enhance the national capacities in fighting human trafficking through preventive measures and better protection and rehabilitation of victims of trafficking. The funding for the project has been provided by the European Union, UNDP and UNICEF. The project is being implemented by UNDP-Belarus jointly with the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Belarus.
