Over 2,700 Students Received Knowledge about Safety Rules of Travelling Abroad

On 2-8 December, an awareness raising campaign “Stop Human Trafficking!” aimed at improving the knowledge of young people about the rules of safety when travelling abroad was held in Brest, Hrodna, Vitsiebsk, Mahiliou, and Homiel.

The campaign was conducted in the framework of the EU/UNDP/UNICEF project “Preventing, Fighting and Addressing the Social Consequences of Trafficking in Human Beings in the Republic of Belarus” with the assistance of the Ministry of Education of Belarus.

The campaign was dedicated to the United Nations International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, which is commemorated every year on the 2nd of December.

In the framework of the campaign, thematic awareness raising events for students of universities and colleges were organised in the largest cinemas of the five oblast cities. The entertainer and radio DJ Max Yugov was the MC of the events. Activities included interactive discussions on the issue of trafficking in human beings, quizzes on safety rules of travelling abroad, and the presentation of the video film “Inhuman Trafficking” which tells about harrowing stories of young women trapped in sexual exploitation in Europe.

“When going abroad, it is important to observe basic rules of safety, which were presented to us during this event today,” said participant of the event, student of Gomel Institute of Engineering of the Ministry of Emergencies Mariya Kukhlevskaya. “A trip abroad is a very responsible step. You should know what awaits you in another country and where you can turn for help in case of need.”

Over 2,700 students attended the events (of them 63% – women and 37% – men).
