The Internet project is under way
A number of regional traininigs in computer skills, the use of Internet and subject-related search for medical information in the global network have been organized for medical doctors in January-February 2003 within the framework of IATP-Belarus Sub-Program (Internet Access and Training Program) of the UNDP Project «Assistance in Expanded Use of Information and Communication Technologies in the Republic of Belarus».
Training in basic skills of the Internet use was organized for medical doctors of the city railway hospital in the Internet Center of the Mogilev regional library. Given the professional needs of the audience, the focus was made on the health sector related sites and news mailing.
Mail boxes which the participants registered during the training will allow them to get the most updated information about the recent achievements in medicine. From 2 to 4 February training for health professionals of the «Letsy» sanatorium was held in the Internet Center of the Vitebsk regional library.
— A year ago I selected ten people - the most «advanced» and determined specialists from the staff of the sanatorium - and brought them to the Internet Center for training «Basics of the Internet», — said Sergey Shmuradko, a medical doctor of the «Letsy» sanatorium and organizer of the training. — As new computers have been recently delivered to the sanatorium, our bosses have been striving to find competent people to teach the administrative staff how to use computers. Given our experience of successful cooperation with the IATP Internet Center, there have been no doubts about approaching them for assistance. We have been even given a bus for a comfortable trip to the place where the training was organized and back...»
—The basics of computer use have been explained to us in a very clear way and we can now go ahead and «master» computer skills, — said Valentina Elenskaya, senior medical doctor of the cardiological department of the sanatorium. — Both doctors and patients of the sanatorium will definitely benefit from that. For example, we are introducing a computerized system for recording the patients and there will be no need to prepare hard cover files and then spend much time looking for them as we used to do before».
