Project Objective & Brief Description: |
The
project overall goal is to raise environmental
awareness among people of Belarus through ecological education and empowerment
of future generations, which should enable them to make decisions conducive to
the protection and sound management of the environment and eventually
contributing to the country’s sustainable development. The project specific
objective
is
to
develop
and
integrate
the educational and methodological course “The Wild Nature of Belarus” into
secondary schools’ curricula of 7th-8th grades.
The
project implementation shall contribute to better knowledge and responsible
attitude towards the environment. Through the development and integration of the
new course on the wild nature of Belarus in full compliance with the
requirements of the national system of general secondary education, and through
preparation of necessary methodological material and training for teachers and
instructors, this project intends to provide assistance to the MEd in
implementation of educational and informational activities and qualitative
improvement of secondary education.
The project will result in integration of the new course into the
7th-8th-grade curricula of about 350 schools specialising in ecology. In future,
the course might be offered to all regular secondary schools of Belarus.
As long
as the course is targeting children, including the ones from rural areas, it
will stimulate their interest and friendly attitude towards their
local nature, and foster a more effective understanding of how to use natural
resources sustainably.
Furthermore,
the project implementation shall be in line with the fulfilment of Belarusian
international commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity regarding
efficient protection of biodiversity and public awareness raising through
specialised educational
programmes.
