The Project aimed to strengthen the
capacity of Belarusian NGOs by active support for partnership between them and
Swedish organisations through providing informational support.
Belarus has more than 1900 NGOs, enabling hundreds of thousands
of people to play a greater role in making decisions that affect their daily
lives. But the NGO sector still remains weak. Several NGO re-registrations have
taken place over the past few years which have undermined their positions. The
UNDP's Support for NGOs project was working to increase the buoyancy of the
third sector, by helping non-governmental organisations establish and expand
their international contacts, and increase their advocacy role within Belarusian
society. |
