00076047

Project Title:

00076047 Prevention and Treatment of HIV/AIDS in the Republic of Belarus 2

Status:

On-going Projects

Project Objective & Brief Description:

The project is financed by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The overall goal of the project is to maintain the Republic of Belarus in the concentrated phase of HIV epidemics and decrease AIDS mortality. The goal is set in accordance with the international commitments of Belarus towards the a href="http://undp.by/en/undp/milleniumgoals/" target="_blank">MDGs and recommendations to scale up efforts toward the goal of universal access for HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support and the national commitments set in the Universal Access Targets.
The project focuses on expanding the coverage of the main vulnerable groups and gradual institutionalization of the prevention and treatment activities so that by the end of the grant the government in partnership with the civil society can take over most of the activities.
Grant implementation is focused on the following key objectives:
• Objective 1. Change the behavior of the most vulnerable groups (injecting drug users (IDU), men who have sex with men (MSM), female sex workers (FSW), prison inmates, women, and youth) to less risky behavior in terms of HIV/AIDS transmission.
• Objective 2. Ensure equal access of PLHIV to continuous treatment, care and support by means of strengthening the healthcare system and ARV therapy commitment programs.
