Project Number:

00035118

Project Title:

00035118 Conservation and Sustainable Management of Polesie through Integration of Globally Important Biodiversity Concerns into Main Areas of Economic Activity at Key Sites, PDF B

Status:

Completed projects

Project Objective & Brief Description:

The main objective of the PDF B stage was to develop an eligible full-size project proposal. As part of the PDF B, there was an in-depth underlying cause and barrier removal analysis undertaken, along with a rigorous participatory logframe exercise, enabling the project brief to be modified accordingly, meeting the GEF standards and addressing and incorporating the comments made to the Project Concept by the GEF Secretariat.

For each component, the PDF B resulted in a detailed description of what was done during project lifetime, how specifically it was done, and at what cost. Establishment of baseline values and indicators enabling monitoring of success at the targeted areas were based on the WWF/World Bank Site Level Tracking Tool and a similar tool used by BirdLife International and other established international agencies.

The main output of the PDF-B is the GEF Project Brief. Additional benefits of the PDF B stage included:

- methodologies, terms of reference, strengthened institutional arrangements, increased awareness and capacity of central and local stakeholders to modify corresponding policies in key productive sectors (agriculture, forestry, flood defense) as well as in protected area management for better account of biodiversity interests,

- strong consultative network of trained representatives from various sectors at various levels (central to local) capable of drafting and implementation of policy changes in sectors affecting biodiversity,

- improved knowledge and understanding of relationships between biodiversity and productive land-uses in Polesie, as well as of the role of local stakeholders in decision-making about economic areas important for biodiversity.
