The Belarus Economic Journal, which has been published since 1997, has become a leading scientific publication on Economics. It publishes analytical materials on the transformation progress, the findings of applied research on the strategy of economic reforms and structural upgrading of industry, agricultural sector and services. During nine years, the Belarus Economic Journal has become a tribune for prominent researchers and economists from several European countries. The joint project of the UNDP and the Belarusian Government titled “Fostering the Socio-Economic Policy Dialogue through the Belarus Economic Journal” was launched in 2003 and completed in December 2005.
Four issues of the Belarus Economic Journal were published in 2005. The Journal has gained a regular audience. Among its subscribers are ministries and government agencies, MPs, local authorities, scientific and research centers and institutes. In April 2005 the Project organized an international conference “The Problems of Upgrading the Economies of Belarus and Russia”. The conference “EU Enlargement and Belarus at the New Border” and the roundtable on Belarus’ and Russia’ accession to WTO were held in May and December respectively. The materials of the forums were published in the Belarus Economic Journal.
In 2005 the Project organized a third
contest for young researchers who were invited to address the most relevant
issues of socio-economic development of Belarus. This time the number of
submitted research works tripled. The results of the contest were summarized at
the 3rd National Conference of Young Researchers on Key Aspects of
Socio-economic Development that was held in the Belarusian State Economic
University under patronage of the Belarus Economic Journal. The authors of the
best works received diplomas, bonuses and souvenirs from the UNDP. The UNDP
intends to continue promoting dialogue among academics, policy makers, experts
and practitioners leading to formulation of a theoretical framework and
practical recommendations on ways of accelerating socio-economic reforms and
achieving sustainable human development. Broad participation of young scientists
will be encouraged to enhance their capacities and contribution to
socio-economic policy dialogue. |
