Memo for Asylum Seekers Released

In the framework of the joint EU—UNHCR project «Strengthening Protection Capacity in the Republic of Belarus — phase II» «Memo for Asylum Seekers» came out.

The Memo gives information on how a foreigner can claim refugee status or subsidiary protection in the Republic of Belarus and on where one should apply to be recognizes as a refugee in the Republic of Belarus; detailed information about the procedure of granting refugee status and subsidiary protection according to the legislation of the Republic of Belarus is given. Addresses and telephone numbers of the organizations which provide support and assistance to refugees and asylum seekers in the Republic of Belarus are given. The Memo is published in Russian, English, French and Farsi.

The Memo is aimed at raising the level of information awareness among refugees and asylum seekers about the possibility to receive assistance in the Republic of Belarus. The Memo is sent to the subdivisions of the State Border Committee, the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and to the non–governmental organizations which provide assistance for refugees and asylum seekers in the Republic of Belarus.

«Memo for asylum seekers» is issued by the International Non–governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes «Evolutio» in close cooperation with the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees Office in Belarus, the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus and the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

The main objective of the project consists in further development of effective and complex system of separation of migration flows; increase in the level of dealing with asylum–seekers both at the border and inside the Republic of Belarus; expansion and consolidation of mechanisms and procedures of monitoring of a situation with protection in order to improve access for asylum–seekers to the Belarusian territory to enjoy fair and effective procedures of refugee granting.
