It is an independent report commissioned by the United Nations Development Programme. In November 2007, the Belarusian Association of UNESCO Clubs and UNISTAR radio station have launched an information campaign aimed at preventing HIV, AIDS and STIs among male drivers and population as a whole. Construction of Water Regulating Facilities to Restore Depleted Peatlands has Started 17 October 2007 | UNDP
In Belarus, UNDP/GEF project on restoration of depleted peatlands has started construction of regulating facilities at project sites “Dokudovskoe”, “Bartenikha”, “Miranka”, which had formerly undergone peat extraction. Construction of water regulation facilities, fire preventing channels and ponds will help decrease the risk of peatlands fires, reduce CO2 emissions, restore habitat for globally valuable flora and fauna species and solve significant ecological problems.

Belarus’ Star Team for fighting AIDS continues to do its best to keep the promises made in support of the global campaign “Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise”. The singer Alexander Patlis is one of the Star Team members. His promise was to help HIV-positive children. The proceeds gained from the last concert under the “Pure Heart” project inspired and organized by Alexander Patlis will partially go to help HIV-positive children.

A workshop “Application of international human rights standards in the administration of justice” was conducted yesterday in Minsk under the UNDP project. Representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Constitutional Court, the Republican Bar, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Supreme Court, the National Center of Law Drafting Activities under the auspices of the President of Belarus, district court judges and district prosecutor’s officers, law university instructors, and scientists participated in the workshop.
New Project is Set to Improve Administration of Justice in Belarus 12 September 2007
Implementation of a new UNDP project “Promotion of a wider application of international human rights standards in the administration of justice in Belarus” funded by the European Commission, UNDP and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) starts in September 2007. The national implementing agency of this two-year project is the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus.

Since 1st July 2007 a new category of highly qualified participants of the Czech pilot project Selection of Qualified Foreign Workers has been introduced. It shall be opened for foreigners who are working in the Czech Republic on posts which require university degree and matches their profession (education or working experience).

It is now more than 20 years since the first case of AIDS was detected, and still the humanity can not stop the spread of the epidemic. Millions of dollars of international resources are being poured to fight the virus, but it still spreads. The main cause of the virus spread is the behaviour of people, quite often irresponsible and careless about themselves and other people. One of the effective tools to influence the behaviour of people is involving well-known personalities in the prevention campaigns, those who listened to by the society, in particular the young people.

On June 20, ILO Executive Director Kari Tapiola arrived in Belarussian capital for a three–day visit. He is accompanied by Ms. Karen Curtis, Deputy Director of the Standards Department, and Ms. Oksana Wolfson, legal officer of the same department.
Belarus invited Kari Tapiola to discuss a draft law on trade unions and take part in a meeting of the council for upgrading labour legislation under the Belarussian Labour and Social Protection Ministry due on June 21.

National Global Compact Participants Network created in Belarus 16 March 2007 | UNDP
Yesterday
a Belarus’ National Global Compact (GC) Participants Network was established in
the settlement of Kolyadichi near Minsk. The managers of the participating
companies adopted the Local Network Regulations developed by an initiative
group, and elected a Coordinating Council (CC). The meeting participants defined

"Unfortunately, Europe has become the second largest illicit market for
cocaine in the world and continues to be one of the main illicit markets in the
world for stimulants. The illicit manufacture of methamphetamine appears to be
taking place on a small scale but is growing. Heroin abuse has remained largely
stable and even declined in Western and Central Europe, while the level of abuse
of opiates has increased in Eastern Europe, and particularly in the

Today the Mogilev center for hygiene, epidemiology and public health
hosted a ceremony of opening a youth informational and educational room on
HIV/AIDS. From now on anyone can receive here professional consultation and get
access to a set of educational services. The room was set up under the
“Prevention and Treatment of HIV/AIDS in the Republic of Belarus” project
implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Health of

manual “Innovative Approaches to HIV Prevention” has been issued under the UNDP
project “Prevention and Treatment of HIV/AIDS in the Republic of Belarus” funded
by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria and implemented in
partnership with the Ministry of Health of Belarus. The issue has a unique
collection of modern methods of carrying out HIV/AIDS prevention work with young
people.
Anti-drug programme prolonged for two years 01 February 2007 | UNDP
February marks the launch of the third stage of the Programme of
Assistance for the Prevention of Drug Abuse and Drug Trafficking in Belarus,
Ukraine and Moldova (BUMAD-3). The European Commission and UNDP have committed
670,000 Euro for the coming two years. The Ministry of Interior as one of the
principle recipients of the Programme assistance is responsible for the project
implementation in Belarus.
