Minsk hosts International Law Competition “Youth for Peace” 22 May 2013
Mr. Sanaka Samarasinha, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus, took part in the event and gave a welcome address to the participants of the International Law Competition “Youth for Peace”. “The questions participants of the Competition are going to raise are very serious and I do hope that your role play, which will be conducted during the Law Competition, will not only deepen your theoretical knowledge in the sphere of international humanitarian law and human rights protection but will help you in the future to demonstrate practical skills and teamwork aimed at solving crucial international, regional and national problems”, said the UN Resident Coordinator in his speech.

Cihan Sultanoglu, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS (RBEC), has visited Belarus during May 15-17. On the first day of the visit Ms. Sultanoglu accompanied by Vladimir Tsalko, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, visited the project areas of UNDP-GEF joint project “Biodiversity” in the Valožin district.

On May 3, 2013 Mr.Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, met with Mr.Sanaka Samarasinha, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative. The discussion has focused on the implementation of the United Nations Development Framework Programme (UNDAF) for Belarus for 2011–2015, which essentially brings in one large document the activities of all UN agencies operating in Belarus. The parties have exchanged views on the recently accomplished UNDAF’s mid–term review and shared the point about the need to proceed proactively together in an effort to mobilize donor resources for the Programme’s implementation.
Belarusian students support the goals of the International Year of Water Cooperation 26 April 2013
Summarizing of open regional competition of student research works dedicated to the International Year of Water Cooperation was held in Brest on April 26. Winners and all attendees were congratulated by the chairman of the jury, Deputy Chief of the Department of Education Irina Chovzhik and Officer–in–Charge of the Department of Public Information of the United Nations in Belarus Victor Radivinovski.

April 26, Minsk, the UN Office in Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a conference "Global Consultations on Post–2015 development agenda — Belarus". The participants of the conference discussed the preliminary results of the national consultations on elaboration of the new development agenda for the post–2015 for Belarus.
International Workshop in Minsk Discusses Specialization of Economic Courts in Belarus 19 April 2013 | UNDP
Participants at an international research and practice workshop in Minsk have discussed ways for specialization of economic courts in Belarus and suggested improvements in the country’s legislation in the respective areas. The workshop was held at the Institute for Re-training and Qualification Upgrading of Judges, Prosecutors and Legal Professionals at the Belarusian State University on April 18, 2013.

Students of the Faculty of International Relations of the Belarusian State University took part in the Belarusian Model United Nations (MUN) which was organized together with UN Office in Belarus 11–12 April. This year MUN was evolved around the Millennium Development Goals momentum and 1,000 days of action as well as the International Day of Water Cooperation.

The participants of the round tables aimed to elaborated approaches to improvement and modernization of legislation governing agro- and ecotourism sector. The events were organized by the Local Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Project of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that is implemented by UNDP.

Belarusians Prioritize their Future 28 March 2013
The national conference "Global Development Agenda beyond 2015 – Belarus" was held in Minsk on March 27. The event was arranged by the United Nations Office in the Republic of Belarus. The conference objective was to discuss development agenda beyond 2015 in the national context. This conference is part of the national consultations in Belarus. Its contribution will be seen it the final report on the country consultations published in May and the final report will feed into the global consultations. A Thousand Days to Keep the Millennium Promise 27 March 2013
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, but starting this week we can march a thousand days forward into a new future. On April 5, the world will reach a vital moment in history’s largest and most successful anti–poverty push – the 1,000–day mark before the target date to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
These eight concrete goals were set in the year 2000, when more leaders than ever before gathered at the United Nations and agreed to cut global poverty and hunger by half, fight climate change and disease, tackle unsafe water and sanitation, expand education and open doors of opportunity for girls and women.
On March 22, 2013, the World Water Day, UNO Minsk jointly with the National Scientific and Technical Library held a seminar in the form of a scientific café "Cooperation in the field of water management and natural water quality assessment in Belarus".
World Water Day is held annually as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
Reflections of the Belarusian language - dedication to Mother Language Day 18 March 2013
To celebrate International Mother Language Day, on 21 February the UN Office (UNO) Minsk launched a photo competition entitled "The Belarusian language — reflection of our thoughts and feeling". As per the contest rules, works submitted were required to reflect the theme: the Belarusian language as a tool to preserve and develop the cultural heritage in its substantial and insubstantial forms in the context of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
UNICEF introduces educational project for parents and caregivers 06 March 2013
UNICEF appealed to young parents and caregivers to ensure the healthy physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of young children. “UNICEF promotes reaching children in a holistic manner that support their full development,” said Mr. Yuri Oksamitniy, UNICEF Representative in Belarus.

On February 27, the Open Doors Day was held in the Conference Hall of the UN Office in Belarus for the 3d and 4th year students of the International Relations Faculty of the Belarusian State University, majoring in international relations. The students were addressed by Mr. Viktor Radivinovsky, Officer–in–Charge of the UN Department of Public Information in Belarus; Ms. Maria Nekrashevich, Program Associate of Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees; Ms. Irina Oleinik, Operations Officer; and Irina Novak, Public Relations Specialist of the UNDP Biodiversity Project.
Belarus is MY World survey most active participant 28 February 2013
1,134 Belarusians have taken part in the MYWorld on–line survey organized by the United Nations and its partners. Given the country population size, the Republic of Belarus is leading in the voting process on the agenda of development after the year 2015. Voting results in neighboring countries are as follows: Ukraine: 1800 people have voted, Russia: over 400, Poland: over 200.
International Mother Language Day photo contest is announced 21 February 2013
The UN Office in Belarus has announced the "Belarusian Language – Reflection of Our Thoughts and Feelings" photo contest dedicated to International Mother Language Day (February 21). On February 21, 2013, by decision of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Mother Language Day is observed around the globe for the fourteenth time. A Unique Exhibition Opens in the Minsk City History Museum 28 January 2013
On January 25 an exhibition of photos by well–known Belarusian photographer Anatoly Kleschuk “My Righteous” opened in the Minsk City History Museum. The exhibition of 58 black and white photos is exploring the theme of Belarusians who risked their lives and their families to rescue Jews during the Holocaust on Belarusian territory.
