OUR PARTNERS : UN Counterpart in the Gomel Region
NGO «International
Cooperation and UN Support Fund» has been functioning in Gomel for five years
already. Within the framework of 12 major programs the Fund cooperates with the
a number of nongovernmental associations including the Belarusian Youth Union,
the Belarusian Association of Christian Women, the US Council for Cooperation in
Education and Language Studies, the British EastWest Institute, the «Children
of Chernobyl» and «Education» Foundations and some others.
In 2002 the Fund was engaged in
organizing and holding the Third International Conference of Twin Cities
conducted with support of the United Nations Development Program in Belarus. In
20032004 the Fund volunteers participated in preparing and holding seminars for
studying the European Convention on Human Rights. The guidelines on human rights
education through interactive methods were developed and published within the
framework of the «Help for the Future» Program. Jointly with the Gomel
Department for Education the Fund organized workshops for teachers on the
practical use of these methods and trainings for schoolchildren from Gomel and
the Gomel region. Subjectrelated brochures and posters prepared by the UN
Office in Belarus were disseminated in schools.
According to Fund Director Pavel Repievsky, within the framework of the
volunteer program «Always Make Good Deeds» the Fund acted as an official
representative of the Global Youth Action Network and a coordinator of the «Day
of Global Youth Labor» Program in Belarus. More than 200 associations
participated in the events. Within the framework of «AntiChernobyl» and «Eye to
Eye» programs the Fund is involved in establishing a database of children in
need of treatment, recuperation and medical services. Medical examination of
wheelchair invalids and children from lowincome families was carried jointly
with cofounder of the Fund — the «Medeya» Medical Center.
