Belarusian Parliament Entered Global Information Network
Website of the House of
Representatives is intended to inform the general public about the activities of
the Belarusian MPs. Webportal contains official information about the procedure
of the House of Representatives' formation, the documents regulating its
activities, structure and composition. A particular attention is given to
lawmaking activities of the House of
Representatives. The website presents lawdrafting plans, plenary session
schedule, materials of the parliamentary hearings, resolutions and decisions
passed by the House of Representatives. The website contains webpages of all
MPs and allows voters to keep contacts with the MP elected in their
constituency.
The presentation of the website
was attended by Vladimir Konoplev, ViceSpeaker of the Belarusian Parliament,
Cihan Sultanoglu, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in
Belarus and Valery Lipkin, Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission
for Human Rights, National Relations and Media who led the team for website
development control. According to Mr Lipkin, development of the website is a
result of a comprehensive preparatory work, which included, among other things,
careful study of the experience of developing the sites of other parliaments. It
took about a year to develop the website structure and software and to agree
with MPs the content of their webpages. In May 2004 the websited was opened
for general access. Vladimir Konoplev noted that the Internet page of the House
of Representatives is intended to inform the general public about the activities
of MPs in a timely manner and to provide prompt and extensive coverage of
lawmaking efforts.
As of 1 September, 4630 visits have been registered since the official
opening of the website of the House of Representatives. 1500 users visited the
site in August only. They are interested mainly in the recent news, lawmaking
chronicle and MPs' personal webpages.
