There is Nothing Better Than Your Home
Almost 1000 Belarusian schoolchildren devoted their works to refugees and
sent them to the competition that was entitled "There is nothing better than
your home…" Drawings, poems and short stories, entering the contest, were not
only from the main Belarusian cities but were also from small villages and towns
of all regions of the country. A portion of the artwork was done by refugee
children living in Belarus. The levels of artistic ability varied, but one thing
was common to all of the drawings — a sincere interest in the themes of
kindness, tenderness and a desire to help those who are in trouble. About 50
children came to Minsk and took part in the events, which culminated in a
gala–concert and an award ceremony for the winners. All participants who reached
the final stage of the contest were given UNHCR diplomas and souvenir tee–shirts
featuring the WRD logo to remember the event.
